Amazon DSP Minimum Spend: What Is the Real Minimum?
Amazon DSP has no minimum spend on the self-service route. Amazon's managed service, run by an Amazon Ads account executive, normally requires a minimum investment of $50,000. Agencies and managed services set their own minimums, so the number you face depends on how you buy.
What this looks like across the book we manage
The short answer: it depends on how you buy
People ask for 'the' Amazon DSP minimum as if there were one number. There are really three routes, and each has a different floor.
- Self-service through Amazon: no minimum spend. The catch is that you run the platform yourself, and access is tied to Amazon's own onboarding.
- Amazon's managed service: Amazon's own advertising pages state that working with an Amazon Ads account executive normally requires a minimum investment of $50,000. That is Amazon's figure, and Amazon can revise it.
- An agency or managed-service partner: the partner sets its own minimum, fee model and contract terms. There is no single industry number, and the partner's floor can sit above or below Amazon's.
So the useful question is not 'what is the minimum?' but 'what is the minimum for the route I would actually use, and what does it include?'
Why the $50,000 figure is not the whole story
A minimum investment is a commitment to Amazon (or to a partner), not a budget recommendation. Three things sit around it that most pages leave out.
It is a floor, not a plan. Meeting a minimum does not mean the campaign has enough money to learn anything. DSP buys impressions at a CPM, and a campaign needs enough volume across audiences and placements for the results to mean something.
It does not include the cost of running it. Self-service means your time, or someone's salary. A partner usually charges a fee, often a percentage of ad spend, on top of media. Ask for that fee in writing before you compare minimums.
It can change. Amazon revises its program criteria and thresholds from time to time. Check Amazon's own advertising pages for the current figure rather than relying on a blog, including this one.
What a DSP budget actually buys
To make a budget concrete, here is what one mixed portfolio produced. Across 30 advertisers we run on Amazon DSP in July 2026, the book delivered 78.4 million impressions at a $4.00 CPM and a blended $1.42 cost per click. It produced 57,137 attributed purchases at a blended $5.49 cost per acquisition, and 20.1% of those purchases came from shoppers new to the brand. Portfolio-wide return on ad spend was 6.04x, measured across the whole book rather than the best line item.
Treat that as a sense of scale, not a promise. It is one portfolio in one month, and your category, price point and creative will move every number. It does show why a floor matters: the figures above come from enough volume to average out noisy line items, which a very small test budget cannot do.
How to pick a starting budget
Work backwards from what you need to learn, not forwards from the minimum.
- Decide the question. Are you testing whether DSP adds sales beyond your sponsored ads, or building new-to-brand reach? The first needs a measurement plan, the second needs patience.
- Set a target cost per acquisition from your margins, not from a benchmark. Know what an order can cost before the campaign starts.
- Split the budget by job. Retargeting, in-market audiences and streaming video behave differently, and a single blended target hides which one is carrying the result.
- Plan the measurement before you spend. Last-click will under-credit DSP. A holdout, or reconciling DSP with sponsored ads in Amazon Marketing Cloud, is how you find out whether it added sales.
- Ask what happens at the end. Find out the notice period, how fees change as spend grows, and whether you keep your data and account access if you leave.
Who should wait, and who is ready
If your catalog is small, your sponsored ads are not yet profitable, or your listings still need work, fix those first. DSP builds on a working search programme; it does not replace one. A sponsored ads account that is wasting money on irrelevant search terms will not be rescued by display.
If your search campaigns are healthy and you have hit the limit of how many people are searching for you, DSP is the next lever, because it reaches shoppers who have not searched yet. That is the point where a budget conversation, whether with Amazon or a partner, is worth having.
Where reMKTR fits
reMKTR runs Amazon DSP as a service, buying on its own advertiser accounts rather than reselling access. We are part of the Full Circle group, which has managed $500M+ in Amazon revenue across 100+ brands. We reconcile DSP against sponsored ads so the same sale is not counted twice. We do not publish a one-size minimum on this page, because the right starting budget depends on your catalog and goals. Talk to us at remktr.com and we will tell you plainly if you are better served by waiting or by another route.
| Route | Minimum spend | Who runs it | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-service through Amazon | No minimum spend | You or your in-house team | Teams with DSP experience and time to manage it |
| Amazon managed service | Normally $50,000 minimum investment, per Amazon's advertising pages | An Amazon Ads account executive | Larger budgets wanting Amazon's own team |
| Agency or managed-service partner | Set by the partner; ask for it in writing | The partner, on your behalf or on its own accounts | Brands that want DSP run for them, with measurement included |
Which one you should actually pick
If you want to run it yourself, self-service has no minimum. If you want Amazon's own team, expect a $50,000 minimum investment. If you want a partner, compare each one's minimum, fee and exit terms in writing. Start with healthy sponsored ads and a measurement plan; the minimum matters less than knowing what you want to learn.
Shortlist on the job, not the feature grid. Pull your search-term report for the last 90 days and total the spend against terms that produced no orders — 48.5% across the 47 brands above. Then ask each vendor on your list what they would do about it in week one, and see who answers with a process rather than a screenshot.
Common questions
What is the minimum spend for Amazon DSP?
There is no minimum spend on the self-service route. Amazon's managed service, with an Amazon Ads account executive, normally requires a minimum investment of $50,000, according to Amazon's advertising pages. Agencies set their own minimums.
Can I start Amazon DSP with a small budget?
Yes, through self-service or a partner whose minimum fits your budget. The limit is learning, not access: a very small budget may not produce enough data to judge results, so decide in advance what you want to find out.
Do I need to sell on Amazon to use Amazon DSP?
No. Amazon DSP can reach audiences on Amazon and on third-party sites, and advertisers do not have to sell on Amazon. Eligibility and onboarding rules are set by Amazon, so check its current pages.
Does the minimum include agency fees?
Usually not. A minimum investment covers media. A partner typically charges a fee on top, often a percentage of ad spend. Ask for the fee structure in writing and divide it out at your planned budget before you compare quotes.
How do I know if Amazon DSP is working?
Do not rely on last-click, which tends to credit the final sponsored ad. Use a holdout test, or reconcile DSP and sponsored ads together in Amazon Marketing Cloud, and decide the success measure before the campaign starts.
